Introduction
Welcome on Jan van Belle’s website and I am happy that you contacted me. As a musician and as a musicologist from Holland I have been involved in various kinds of music, from rock music, contemporary composed music, classical Western music to all kinds of music from other continents.
In the last 11 years I have been doing research in Central Asia, especially in Tajik and Afghan Badakhshan. This website is meant to inform you about the progress of my reseach in these last mentioned areas and to exchange information with you about music in Central Asia.
I am convinced that an exchange of knowledge will lead to a growth of knowledge. However the first aim of this website is to give more publicity to the wonderful musicians and music of the harsh, poor and forgotten mountain area of Badakhshan. I really hope that in the near future this website will be accessible to them in the first place.
